From Farm Roots to Feeding Farmers: A Journey of Giving Back

Chad Andrus grew up on a rice farm and cattle operation in Southeast Texas, where he learned firsthand the dedication, sacrifice, and long hours required to make a living from the land. After high school, he continued farming by leasing local acreage before eventually purchasing and operating a 640-acre farm. Those experiences provided him with a deep appreciation for the agricultural community and the hardworking men and women who help feed America.
In February 2020, while attending a conference in Orlando, Chad participated in a discussion about giving back to local communities. As others shared stories about supporting their towns and neighborhoods, he realized his community was the agricultural industry. Inspired by the idea of recognizing farmers during the busiest times of the year, he partnered with Amy Hamilton of Cattleman’s Kitchen and launched the Feed A Farmer Program in August 2020, delivering meals directly to harvest crews working long hours in the fields.
What began with just 20 meals delivered during its first season has grown into a regional initiative serving farmers across Southeast Texas with continued growth in . With the support of community partners, the program delivered 475 meals during the 2025 harvest season alone. More than a meal, Feed A Farmer is a way of expressing gratitude to the farmers and ranchers whose hard work sustains our nation and reflects Chad’s ongoing commitment to the agricultural communities that shaped his life and career.
