In April 2022, Chad attended a conference in Orlando where a mastermind session centered on giving back to our communities. As Chad listened to realtors share how they supported their towns and neighborhoods, Chad realized my community looked different. Chad grew up on a large rice farm and cattle operation in Southeast Texas, where long days in the fields often meant skipping meals—especially during harvest. After high school, Chad began leasing farms and eventually purchased a 640-acre tract Chad had been working, continuing a lifelong connection to agriculture. During that conference, a simple idea crossed my mind: what if we delivered lunch directly to farmers in the fields during harvest? At first it seemed small, but reviewing my notes later, it felt significant. My community wasn’t defined by city limits—it was the farmers and ranchers who work tirelessly to feed this country.
In 2022, Chad decided to act on that idea and reached out to Amy Hamilton of Cattleman’s Kitchen, who immediately agreed to help deliver meals straight to harvesting crews. That first year, we provided 50 lunches to farmers who rarely stop to eat when time is critical. In 2024, Toni Spencer of M & J Fertilizer joined as a co-sponsor, helping us expand the effort by coordinating deliveries with active harvest schedules. By the end of the 2024 season, we expect to deliver 175 lunches. It’s a simple gesture, but one that honors the hard work of farmers—especially considering that the United States Department of Agriculture reported 2.93 million acres of rice planted nationwide in 2024, including 149,000 acres in Texas. What began as a passing thought has grown into a meaningful way to serve the agricultural community that keeps our country running.
